Solutions
Ntrip protocol gives new possibilities to receive GNSS correction data from Ntrip Caster.
Those corrections can be achieved from single reference stations and networked reference stations like VRS Trimble or GNSMART GEO++.
Four different solutions with the use of mobileNtrip family applications to work in DGPS and RTK modes are presented:
1. NtripRTK
This is the work with single reference stations. In this case, RTK format is used.
The stations have fixed coordinates and work constantly or work only when the survey is realized. The stations must provide correction data for the Caster.
Survey can be done in radius of 30-40 km only, but the measured accuracy can reach less than 5 centimeters. Users (clients) can access that data using mobileNtrip application installed on mobile phone.
2. NtripDGPS
This solution uses single reference stations generating corrections in DGPS format.
These corrections can be used in huge area (300 km radius) within reference stations with expected accuracy close to 1 meter. Corrections can be received by mobile phone client with mobileNtrip application installed.
For VRS systems (VRS Trimble and GNSMART GEO++), the accuracy of 25 centimeters for GIS and GPS receivers can be achieved.
For GIS solutions, another system can be used (i.e. MultiNav Euronav Company) which generates DGPS corrections for virtual stations and fixed stations. This system can convert EGNOS and WAAS RTCA corrections to RTCM ones. Then, it is possible to use such converted corrections from Casters like www.egnos-ip.de and www.rtklink.net.
Above two solutions represents following schema:
3. NtripVRSRTK
This approach is based on work with the virtual reference station which generates correction data for users, calculated using autonomous position that clients send to the Caster.
Two systems are most popular: VRS Trimble and GEOSMART GEO++ . Both can make corrections for users that send GPS position in NMEA format GGA or special AdV NMEA format (SAPOS). Those systems can broadcast corrections via special server called iGate for Trimble VRS system and GNCASTER for GEO++ system.
Most reference systems require user authentication with user login and password.
This kind of corrections can be received by mobileNtrip applications.
The solution is shown below:
4. mobileNtripRTK
This is a new solution to realize RTK survey with mobile reference stations.
It is based on a standard method of RTK survey, but radio modems have been replaced by mobile phones with mobileNtripServer (reference station) and mobileNtrip (rover-client) installed.
Of course, correction data from the reference stations must pass through the Caster.
This approach is very comfortable and flexible at low costs. RTK survey can be done using only 2 mobile phones connected to GPS receivers!
Below you can see schema of this solution:
Summary
mobileNtrip family with Ntrip protocol brings great possibilities to various measurement and navigation applications:
- increase of RTK measurement area,
- work with different reference stations,
- work with old types of GPS receivers for use in reference stations systems,
- radio packet access to data distributions systems (GPRS, EDGE, UMTS),
- possibility to create dedicated measure and navigation solutions,
- easy adoption to different areas of industry where pseudo-real-time data transmission is needed.
